Automatic scene switching on your OBS
By the end, the OBS at your house will switch on its own to your low-bitrate scene or your offline scene when the feed you send from the street sinks, and go back to your camera when it recovers.
You need: the Stream Key plan · remote control turned on in that OBS · a stream key · the three scenes created in OBS · 5 minutes
- In My OBS, open your OBS and go to the Scene switching tab.
- Under Stream key, pick in Stream key whose signal decides the key you stream to from the street. Its feed is what decides: if the bitrate drops or cuts out, it switches your OBS scene.
- Under Scenes, pick Live scene, Low-bitrate scene and Offline scene. With remote control on, the options come from your OBS (Refresh scenes reads them again); if they can’t be read, type the exact name of each one.
- Under Thresholds, adjust Low bitrate (kbps), High RTT (ms) and Offline (kbps). They come set to 900, 1500 and 450, which fit a stream of around 3 Mbps.
- Click Save. You’ll see Automatic scene switching saved.
The three scenes are required. If you leave one out, the dashboard stops you with “Pick the live, low-bitrate and offline scenes before saving.”
When it works
Section titled “When it works”It starts on its own when your OBS is open with remote control on, and it only switches scenes while your OBS is streaming. If you close OBS or turn control off, it stops after a few minutes; when you open it again, it starts again without you touching anything.
The card at the top tells you where it stands:
| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not set up | The key or one of the three scenes is missing |
| Ready | It’s saved and starts as soon as your OBS connects with remote control on |
| Active | It’s watching your stream key’s feed right now |
| Needs control | It’s saved, but remote control is off in the plugin, or the plugin needs an update |
| Not in your plan | The key you picked is on a plan without automatic scene switching: pick another one or upgrade its plan |
In the list of keys, the ones on a plan that doesn’t include it are marked plan without scene switching.
What it doesn’t do on your OBS
Section titled “What it doesn’t do on your OBS”On your OBS, chat is off: there are no commands for your moderators and no automatic stop when you raid or host on Twitch, and there’s no retries field either. If you want your moderator to give you a hand, hand them a control widget. The differences with the Cloud OBS are in Setting it up on your OBS.
Turning it off
Section titled “Turning it off”Turn off stops scene switching on that OBS and deletes its settings. You can set it up again whenever you like.
Not working?
Section titled “Not working?”Scene switching needs remote control Tick Allow remote control from EnhancedIRL in Tools → EnhancedIRL Switcher… on that OBS.
Automatic scene switching isn’t included in your plan None of your plans includes it. Have a look at See plans.
The card says Active, but it doesn’t switch scenes It’s almost always a scene name that no longer exists or a threshold that doesn’t fit what you stream: The scene doesn’t switch when the signal drops.
Next step
Section titled “Next step”- Recommended thresholds — what numbers to use depending on how much you stream at.
- Control your OBS from My OBS — scenes, stream and audio by hand.
