Problems with the EnhancedIRL Encoder

A source on your EnhancedIRL Encoder won’t come in, the audio goes away, or the device reboots by itself.

  1. The power supply. Look at the voltage in the screen’s header: if it’s amber (below 4.8 V), the supply is falling short. Use 5 V and 4 A through the barrel jack, with the J48 jumper and a short cable. The web page warns with Low power.
  2. The version. Lots of bugs are already fixed: see Updating the encoder.
  3. The source’s state. The text under each thumbnail (NO SIGNAL…) is your clue.
What you see What it means What you do
The HDMI thumbnail says NO SIGNAL No picture is coming through the board’s HDMI Turn on the camera and its HDMI output. Try another cable
It says max 1080p50 or 720p60 or interlaced: not supported The camera sends a mode that input doesn’t take Set it to progressive and 1080p50 at most, or pick 1080p30 (recommended) in Settings › Sources › Input. For 1080p60, a USB 3 capture card
A USB capture card shows NO SIGNAL Nothing reaches its HDMI, or the source is off. A still black picture for 5 s also triggers it Turn on the source. The picture comes back by itself within seconds
The capture card doesn’t show up It has no free slot, or USB doesn’t see it It may be waiting for a slot: see The encoder’s sources. If not, plug it in again, ideally on USB 3
stuck: unplug it and plug it back The USB capture card or camera hung and the encoder couldn’t recover it (it tries first by itself: restarting its USB port) Unplug it and plug it back in. If it happens often, use a USB 3 hub with its own power supply
no room on the USB bus Two big uncompressed capture cards don’t fit on USB at once Keep just one like that, or swap it for one that compresses
The board’s HDMI audio goes away and doesn’t come back The HDMI board’s chip sometimes loses the audio after renegotiating the signal with the camera. The encoder tries to recover it by itself, without cutting the video If it isn’t back within half a minute: shut it down with Power off (hold 2 s), unplug the power for a few seconds and plug it back in. Restarting isn’t enough: the chip doesn’t lose power
It reboots by itself mid-stream The power supply is falling short, above all when capture cards or modems wake up 5 V 4 A, short cable, J48 jumper. Modems on a USB hub with its own supply
The phone won’t open the .local web page The phone isn’t on the same network as the encoder See The first-boot wizard. You can also join the phone to Create my Wi-Fi and open the address shown in Settings › System › About, under Encoder’s web page
A connection says No internet It has a network but doesn’t reach the internet: hotel Wi-Fi with a login page, a SIM with no credit, a wrong APN It leaves the share by itself, without cutting. A Wi-Fi with a login page is no use to it. Check the SIM’s credit or the APN. See The encoder’s connections
A modem says the SIM asks for its PIN, roaming is off or repeated IP A locked SIM, outside its country with roaming off, or two identical modems with the same IP On the modem’s page: Unlock the SIM, Roaming or Separate the networks
The network camera stays on Waiting for the camera The phone isn’t reaching the encoder It must be on the encoder’s Wi-Fi (or its network, by cable), with the URL for that mode
It stays on CONNECTING… The destination doesn’t connect See the Not working? section of Broadcasting with the EnhancedIRL Encoder

The encoder is open source: support comes from the community, not from the dashboard’s tickets.

  • Ask on our Discord, in English.
  • If it’s a bug, open it in the GitHub issues with the version (Settings › System › About), your build (board, capture card, modems) and the text on the screen.

The dashboard’s Support tickets are for your EnhancedIRL account, your stream keys and billing.
