The encoder's first-boot wizard

By the end, the encoder will have its language, the time, an internet connection, a password for its web page and its name on your network. You can change all of it later in Settings.

You need: the freshly booted encoder (Writing the image and booting) · the touch screen · 5 minutes

The wizard shows up by itself on the touch screen. Move on with Next and go back with Back.

  1. Language. English, Spanish or French: the screen and the encoder’s web page use it.
  2. Date & time. Pick your time zone. With internet, the time sets itself; without it, you set it by hand.
  3. Network. Connect the encoder to the internet by cable or to a Wi-Fi (it needs the Wi-Fi card). You can Skip the step and do it later. Here you also see the name of the encoder’s own Wi-Fi, EnhancedIRL- and four characters, which your phones and cameras join. You can change it.
  4. Web password. It protects the encoder’s web page. At least 10 characters. This step can’t be skipped.
  5. Name. Up to 40 characters: letters, digits, spaces and - _ . '. It’s the encoder’s name on your network, and its web address comes from it.
  6. EnhancedIRL. Link the encoder to your account to control it from the dashboard. It’s in closed beta: for now, press Skip.
  7. Done. Press Finish.

Open http://<encoder-name>.local on a phone or laptop connected to the same network as the encoder, and sign in with the web password. It has everything the screen has, with a preview of the program. It’s the easiest way to paste URLs and keys.

The web page says the setup code isn’t valid. Copy it as it appears on the screen. Upper or lower case doesn’t matter, and the code has no zeros and no O’s. After 5 failed tries in a minute, wait a minute before trying again.

My phone won’t open the .local address. The phone has to be on the same network as the encoder, not on mobile data. If it still won’t open it, look up the encoder’s IP in your router and open that in the browser.

It won’t let me past the password step. It needs 10 characters or more, and the two times you type it have to match.
