Action cameras
By the end, your action camera will be broadcasting to your stream key and you’ll see it on Streaming in the dashboard.
You need: any plan with a stream key · the camera and its app on your phone · 10 minutes
What they have in common
Section titled “What they have in common”These cameras broadcast over RTMP from their app, and their apps want the URL and the key in the same field. So nothing gets split here:
- Copy the whole publish URL with Publish: with the port (
:1936on RTMPS,:1935on RTMP) and with the/live/<your-key>at the end. - Paste it as-is into the app’s field for streaming to a custom platform or RTMP.
- If getting it onto your phone is a pain, use your key’s QR code in the Other encoder format: it carries the publish URL as text, no typing.
- If the app lets you pick quality or bitrate, stay below your plan’s cap (Caps and states).
Which protocol to set for each one
Section titled “Which protocol to set for each one”| Camera | App | Set the key to | What we know |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoPro (HERO7 Black and later) | Quik | RTMPS | Streams to a custom RTMP server and supports RTMPS |
| Insta360 | The Insta360 app | RTMPS (if it won’t connect, RTMP) | A single field for the streaming address |
| DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Action | Mimo | RTMP | Only RTMP is documented |
- In the dashboard, open Stream Keys and set the Protocol selector to RTMPS.
- Hit Publish to copy the URL. It starts with
rtmps://and carries:1936. - In Quik, connect the camera and go into the option to stream live to a custom platform (RTMP).
- Paste the whole URL into the URL field. Don’t strip the port or the key.
- Pick the quality and start streaming. In the dashboard, the key goes from No signal to Streaming.
Insta360
Section titled “Insta360”- Set the key to RTMPS and copy the URL with Publish.
- In the Insta360 app, go into live streaming to a custom platform or RTMP.
- Paste the whole URL into the streaming address field (something like Streaming Address).
- Start streaming. If it won’t connect, switch the key to RTMP, copy the new URL and paste it in again.
For the Osmo Pocket 3 and the Osmo Action, DJI only documents RTMP, so use RTMP.
- Set the key to RTMP and copy the URL with Publish. It starts with
rtmp://and carries:1935. - In Mimo, go into live streaming to a custom platform or RTMP.
- Paste the whole URL and start streaming.
Not working?
Section titled “Not working?”The camera won’t connect over RTMPS. Check the date and time on your phone and on the camera: if they’re wrong, the encrypted connection fails. If you’re at a hotel, an event or on a company network, it may be blocking port 1936: try mobile data. If it still won’t go, switch the key to RTMP and copy the URL again, because it changes.
It connects and the dashboard stays on No signal. The URL is old or trimmed. It happens every time you change the Protocol or the Region, or you Rotate the key. Copy it again with Publish and replace the whole URL in the app.
It’s fine standing still and drops the moment you walk. These cameras broadcast over RTMP, which handles a bad mobile network worst, and over a single connection. If you’re going to move around with poor coverage, broadcasting from your phone over SRTLA or SRT holds up far better: see Choosing a protocol.
