Restart or regenerate

The two buttons sit next to each other in your server’s detail and do very different things. One is harmless. The other has no way back.

Restart Regenerate
What it does Shuts your server down and brings it back up Deletes the server and creates a new one from scratch
Scenes Kept Lost
OBS settings Kept Lost
Uploaded assets Kept Lost
Overlays and scene switching Kept Back to factory values
If you’re live The broadcast is cut The broadcast is cut
Can it be undone? No need No
How long it takes Not long Like creating a new server: a few minutes

Hit Restart. It warns you: “Restart the server? The current session will be interrupted.” The status goes to Restarting… and comes back to Online.

It’s the equivalent of closing OBS and opening it again. Use it when:

  • The dashboard can’t connect to your server even though it’s Online.
  • OBS has got stuck: it doesn’t respond to scene changes, the audio doesn’t show up.
  • The stats are frozen.
  • Something’s off and you don’t know what. Try this first, always.

Hit Regenerate and the dashboard says exactly that before asking you to Confirm. The status goes to Regenerating… and, when it’s done, you have a brand new server with the factory scenes and overlays (Scenes and overlays).

Only use it when:

  • You’ve messed with the OBS configuration so much that you no longer know what you broke and you’d rather start clean.
  • The server says Error and restarting doesn’t fix it.
  • Support asks you to.
  1. Download or get back to hand everything you uploaded to assets: it gets deleted.
  2. Write down anything you customised by hand in OBS.
  3. Copy the URLs of your own overlays if you had them set.

It stays off. The dashboard warns you: “Your server is off. The changes will be applied but the server will stay off — turn it on whenever you want to use it.”

Regenerating doesn’t turn it on, so it doesn’t burn resources until you hit Turn on (It turns off on its own).
