Control widget

The control widget is a link that opens the control screen for your OBS without signing in. Whoever has it can run your stream from their phone without touching your account.

That link gives FULL control

“Anyone with the link can switch scenes, start or stop the stream and change audio, without signing in.” There are no partial permissions and no read-only mode. Share it only with people you trust, one by one, and never paste it in a public chat, in a channel description or in a screenshot.

What it’s for

• Your moderator: drops you to the BRB scene when you walk into somewhere awkward, mutes your mic or stops the stream if something happens to you, without waiting for you to get your phone out.
• A second device: a tablet on the handlebars, a spare phone, a mate’s laptop. You open the link and you’ve got the controls, no logging in again.

Generating it

1. Open Stream Keys and go into Local OBS.
2. In the page header, hit Copy widget link.
3. Read the warning — “This link gives full control of your OBS” — and confirm with Got it, copy link. The link is copied to the clipboard.
4. Pass it to that person over a private channel.

The dashboard tells you how long it’s good for: The link expires on…. That’s 30 days from when you generate it. While it’s still valid, hitting Copy widget link again gives you the same link, not a new one.

On a Cloud OBS it works the same: the Widget button in the server detail, with the same warning and the same 30 days.

What the person opening it sees

The OBS name, a status badge (Connected, Disconnected or Live) and the controls. Nothing else: not your stream key, not your billing, not the rest of your resources.

Two messages they might get:

What they see	What it means
OBS isn’t connected	Your dock isn’t open. “It will show up here as soon as it connects.”
Invalid or expired link	The link was revoked or the 30 days ran out. A new one has to be generated

Revoking it

Revoking cuts access immediately, not at the end of the stream.

• One specific link: in the header of the Local OBS page, the Revoke button. “The current link will stop working immediately. You’ll have to generate a new one to share it again.”
• All of them at once: Account → Security → Widget links → Revoke links. “All widget links for your servers will stop working immediately.” It’s the panic button: use it if one has leaked and you don’t know which.

Revoke as soon as it’s no longer needed

A moderator who isn’t with you anymore, a one-off stream with a guest, a phone you’ve sold: revoke. Generating another one takes two taps; getting back a stream someone stopped from outside doesn’t.

Good habits

• One link per person, per season. If your mod changes, revoke and generate another.
• Don’t leave it in a message that can be forwarded around.
• Don’t open it in a shared browser or leave it in the history of a public PC.
• If you’re unsure whether it leaked, revoke. Always.
